Sarna Institute of Social Service has been working on health related issues. In East Singhbhum district, disadvantaged communities are faced with a lack of knowledge and access to information which leads to an increase in health and hygiene problems. These issues in turn contribute to the cycle of poverty.
One issue that Sarna Institute of Social Service is addressing is that of HIV-AIDS, working to counter discrimination and stigma and also strengthening community groups and providing health related services. In the past year, the team has been concentrating its efforts in 5 Gram Panchayats of Chakulia & Baharagora block; working with a total of 5 Youth Recreation Centres and 100 Peer Educators.
Sarna Institute of Social Service is also working on Mother and Child Health. Through the Behaviour Change Communication programme, Sarna Institute of Social Service is intervening in 6 blocks -Â Chakulia, Baharagora, Dhalbhumgarh, Ghatsila, Musaboni & Potka of East Singhbhum district to disseminate four key messages (early and exclusive breast feeding, hand washing practice, HIV-AIDS, and girl child education). These messages are disseminated through a network of Village Information Centres and Village Youth Volunteers.
