Frequently asked questions
What are painting classes?
In a nutshell, painting classes are short academic courses intended to inspire and build your confidence in the art by providing a broad knowledge of the skills and methods of painting at all levels.
Through group discussions and demonstrations, you will also learn how art has changed through history, the basics of painting theory and techniques, and how to visually understand the concept of shadow and perspective.
You will also be familiarised with the fundamental principles and styles of painting for assimilating visual compositions. Through this, you will be given the opportunity to create your own paintings inspired by numerous movements such as Cubism, Surrealism, and the Renaissance!
Why study painting?
If you aspire to become the next Claude Monet, dream of painting this century’s ‘The Last Supper’, or simply love to be creative and have a passion for art, then you should definitely take up a painting course!
Don’t worry if you’re new to this either, because many of the courses offered do not require any previous knowledge/qualifications, which means that you can be a complete beginner and still be involved!
Taking a painting class can bring you a step closer to a new and exciting career, or even more importantly, intensify your passion for art.
Why is painting beneficial?
Numerous health reports claim that painting is highly beneficial to our mental health and overall well-being. A 2015 report published by ‘Health Fitness Revolution’ magazine claims that:
‘’Painting is not limited to being just an artistic endeavor but also enjoys many health benefits. It’s extremely effective therapeutic and calming techniques, for one, can help increase mental and physical health.’’
They go on to point out several positive advantages to the activity, such as:
- Improving concentration
- Sharpening fine motor skills
- Strengthening memory
- Boosting creativity
- Improving critical thinking skills
- Improving self-confidence
- Creating a positive mindset
Below are some things you could learn from a painting course. Of course, topics vary by course, so take a look at each page to see which cover topics that you are interested in:
- Work with oils, acrylics, and watercolours
- Use both dry and fluid mediums
- Paint according to proportions and measurements
- Use long pose to work on a drawing, oil or acrylic painting for a prolonged duration
