How do I report accessibility issues?

First, tell us about any problems that prevent you from accessing our services so we can fix them and help you further. There are instructions for how to do so under the heading "We will help you". If you aren't satisfied with our response, you can report us to the regulator Digg (after 28 June 2025). We value your feedback and we list the fixed issues reported by users.

Enforcement procedure

The Agency for Digital Government, Digg, is responsible for enforcing the web accessibility regulations. If you experience accessibility issues on our website, you can submit a complaint to Digg.

You can also submit a complaint to Digg if you think that our assessment of what constitutes a disproportionate burden should be reviewed, if you think that our accessibility statement is inadequate, or it you think that your request for excluded content in an accessible format has not been handled correctly.

How accessible are our digital services?

Although we're committed to accessibility, we recognise that not everything is fully accessible to all our visitors at this time. This is something we're working on addressing, and we'd be very grateful if you could report any issues so we can improve the experience for everyone. In this section, we describe the accessibility of our websites.

Non-accessible content

Text does not get bigger when zooming in the browser

Description: When you zoom in on the page (to 200% or 400%), the text doesn’t get bigger, making it harder to read for people with poor vision.
Action: We are making changes to allow zooming and ensuring text can be enlarged as required by accessibility guidelines.

Breadcrumbs are not announced for screen reader users

Description: The breadcrumb navigation (the path showing your location on the site) isn't read out loud by screen readers, which can confuse users relying on this tool.
Action: We are making sure that screen readers will correctly announce the breadcrumb navigation, so users can understand where they are on the site.

Incorrect label for breadcrumb navigation

Description: A part of the breadcrumb navigation has the wrong technical label, which makes it harder for screen readers to understand.
Action: We are fixing this mistake by using the correct labels for the breadcrumb navigation, making it clearer for screen reader users.

Cookiebar is not accessible with keyboard
Description: The cookie bar opens automatically but cannot be navigated using the keyboard, preventing users from interacting with it.
Action: We are ensuring that the cookie bar can be navigated and closed using the keyboard.

Footer links are not accessible with keyboard
Description: The footer link lacks an href attribute, making it inaccessible to keyboard users.
Action: We are adding the necessary href and tabindex attributes to ensure the links are fully keyboard accessible.

Error messages are not informative
Description: When errors are detected in forms, no helpful suggestions are provided to the user on how to fix them.
Action: We are adding clear and concise error messages next to form fields and ensuring they remain visible to the user.

Interactive elements too close together in the footer
Description: Some clickable elements in the footer are too close to each other, making it difficult for users to accurately click on them.
Action: We are increasing the click area size to ensure that all interactive elements meet the minimum target size of 24x24px.

Wrong heading levels used
Description: Some headings on the website have incorrect order (e.g., h5 before h1), which can be confusing for screen reader users.
Action: We are restructuring the headings to ensure they follow a logical order and are marked correctly to help screen reader users navigate the content.

Links without discernible name
Description: Links without descriptive text or alt text make them inaccessible to screen reader users.
Action: We are adding alt text to all images within links and ensuring all links have clear, descriptive names.

Keyboard trap in the search bar
Description: When the search bar is opened and closed using the escape key, the focus disappears, preventing users from navigating to other areas on the page.
Action: We are fixing the focus management to ensure the focus remains on the search bar after using the escape key.

Elements with focus are hidden by other elements
Description: Some interactive elements (e.g., form fields) are hidden behind overlay elements, making them inaccessible to users who rely on keyboard navigation.
Action: We are ensuring that focusable elements are not obscured by overlay elements and can be interacted with.

Social media links missing names
Description: Social media icons in the footer lack proper names, making them hard to identify for screen reader users.
Action: We are adding descriptive names to all social media links to improve accessibility.

Invisible column in the table announced by screen readers
Description: An empty table column is being announced by screen readers, which can confuse users.
Action: We are removing the empty table column that serves no meaningful purpose.

Recurring content cannot be skipped
Description: Users who navigate with the keyboard or assistive devices cannot skip over repetitive navigation elements, making the site difficult to use.
Action: We are implementing a "skip-link" to allow users to bypass repetitive content and navigate directly to the main page content.
